What is Acrobatics?

Acrobatics (or Acro for short) is sort of like Gymnastics without all the equipment!

We start from the basics with forward & backward rolls, handstands, cartwheels and bridges. When students are ready, they will begin learning one handed cartwheels, aerials, down to bridge and recover, walkovers and all sorts of exciting tricks.

Strength, flexibility and endurance play a key roll in our classes. These are important foundations for acrobatics.

As their skillset improves, Acrobatics can transition into Acrobatic Dance, or Acro Dance. Students are able to incorporate their tricks into dance routines in various different dance styles.

What Will My Child Learn In Each Class?

Students will learn how to stretch and increase flexibility correctly and safely. This includes front and side splits, toes to head, cobra, forward bend, shoulder stretching and many more.

Building strength is incredibly important not just for safe acro dance, but for health in general. Various exercises include superman, table top, V sit, bridge, handstands, plank, wall sit and frog jumps.

Balancing on one leg, rises, scorpion & baby scorpion, headstands, leg hold and chest stands are fantastic for overall balance.

Limbering is important to begin to combine the prior components of flexibility, strength and balance. Students work on exercises such as bridge recover, bridge and kick over, arabian handstands, pike, tuck, straddle, pushup to bridge and more.

This is where it all comes together! Hollow position, log rolls, cartwheels, forward and backward rolls, handstands and walks, handstand to forward roll, dive rolls, aerials, walkovers and many more skills as they are ready.

What is the dress code for a class?

Hair must NOT be loose. Please put it up in a ponytail, bun, or similar. Loose hair is a risk in class as it can be get caught under their hands or body during various exercises. We don’t want any students ripping out their hair!

Our Inspire Academy Uniform is recommended for all classes. We have a range to choose from including leggings, bike shorts, leotards, crop tops and t-shirts.

Clothing should ideally be tight-fitting and free to move in. This will allow teachers to safely spot them and for them not to get caught in loose, flowy clothing.
